The finger strap is a soft‑goods accessory that loops around your finger (usually the index) when using a ring scanner like RS409, RS419, RS4000, or RS5000.

It helps secure the scanner on the finger, preventing drops while allowing you to press the trigger or scan comfortably.

Since ring scanners are often shared among operators, having replaceable straps is very useful for hygiene, wear, and tear.

Common Issues / Failure Modes

• Flex Damage: Over time, flex cables can wear out, especially in devices that are opened frequently for repair, leading to cracks or broken traces.

• Connector Deformation: The ZIF / connector ends can suffer wear or misalignment, resulting in poor contact or intermittent scan behavior.

• Signal Loss: If the flex is damaged, the scanner may fail to send data to the host, or scanning may stop working altogether.

• Power Issues: A bad flex might also interrupt the power line, affecting scan engine operation (or causing no scan).

Replacement / Installation Tips

• When replacing, ensure the device is powered off and battery removed to avoid damage / shorting.

• Use ESD-safe tools to open the scan‑head / front housing carefully.

• Remove the old flex gently, noting how it is routed (take photos if needed).

• Clean the connector areas before seating the new flex — ensure no dust / debris.

• Carefully insert the new flex into the connectors and lock them (if they are ZIF).

• After installing, test scanning thoroughly to make sure the SE960 engine is working properly (scan several 1D barcodes).
